Like any other legal entity, an NGO can merge, demerge and affiliate with another similar organization in furtherance of its objectives in Cameroon.
The law recognizes the possibility of NGOs to merge or split in order to carry out their missions efficiently.
The approval procedure provided for in the law on NGOs in Cameroon shall apply to the NGO or NGOs resulting from the merger or demerger, as the case may be.
NGOs may affiliate, without affecting their status, with NGOs pursuing similar objectives in one or more foreign countries.
PROCESS FOR THE MERGER, DEMERGER AND AFFILIATION OF AN NGO IN CAMEROON
The process for a merger, demerger and affiliation of an NGO must be done with the approval of the members who must constitute the acceptable quorum for the ratification of the process. In this light, the NGOs involved must have a duly drafted and ratified general assembly meeting giving approval to the fusion, split or affiliation. Such documents must be submitted to the authority in charge of NGO approvals in Cameroon.
It is important to note that while the merger and demerger will affect the status of the organization, an affiliation is more like a partnership between two organizations which should not affect the status of the organization.
