Institutions must be members of the Professional Association of Microfinance Institutions in their country. There is only one professional association per country, as defined in these Regulations.
The purpose of the professional association is to defend the collective interests of the institutions. It is responsible for informing its members and the public.
It may conduct any studies and develop any recommendations with a view to, where appropriate, promoting cooperation among members as well as the organization and management of services of common interest.
The statutes of the professional association are subject to the approval of the Monetary Authority.
The professional associations of member countries are required to join the Federation of Professional Associations of Microfinance Institutions of the CEMAC. This federation is responsible for pursuing the same objectives as the professional associations with sub-regional institutions.
The institutions are classified and registered in the special register of the National Credit Council.
The Banking Commission of Central Africa establishes and publishes the list of authorized institutions within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community.
The conditions governing their operation, particularly their relationships with clients, fall under the jurisdiction of the National Credit Council.
